Student Dress Code – Grades 6-12 (voluntary participation for students in grades K-4 through 5)
TOPS: · Solid color, plaid, or striped – – polo shirts (with collar); turtleneck or mock turtleneck shirts; oxford or dress shirts. On shirts with buttons, only the top button may be left unbuttoned. · Pullover crewneck sweaters or sweatshirts · Cardigan or v-neck sweaters, blazers, sports coats, suit jackets or vests. An approved top (listed above) must be worn underneath.
All tops must be loose fitting, may include a small brand-name or non-offensive logo or a school logo, and may have long, three quarter, or short sleeves. Solid color long- or short-sleeve crewneck t-shirts may only be worn under approved tops.
Not permitted: Sleeveless tops; hoods; stretch, lycra-spandex or denim; ripped, torn or cut-off clothing.
BOTTOMS: · Loose-fitting, solid color dress, corduroy, cargo-style or docker-style pants (fitted and secured at the natural waist). Pants may not drag on the floor. · Loose-fitting, solid color twill or broadcloth shorts, skorts or skirts (fitted and secured at the natural waist) in a length no more than three (3) inches above the knee (including any slits). · Loose-fitting, solid color twill or broadcloth capri pants or skater shorts (fitted and secured at the natural waist). · Also, solid color twill or broadcloth jumpers in a length no more than three inches above the knee (including any slits) with approved top underneath.
Not permitted: Knit, stretch, lycra-spandex or denim; nylon pants or sweatpants; ripped, torn or cut-off clothing.
FOOTWEAR: Footwear is required. Shoes and sandals must have back or company-made back strap around the heel (no clogs, slides, etc.). Not permitted are flip-flops, shower clogs, slippers, beach-type shoes, shoes with metal cleats, or any footwear meant to be worn only out of doors.
HATS: No hats, bandanas, or head coverings are to be worn in the building at any time. Articles of clothing for the outside elements are to be left in the student’s locker.
The administrators will have the final ruling in determining appropriateness of all clothing and footwear.
DISCIPLINE FOR VIOLATORS:Students who fail or refuse to comply with this dress code will be subject to the following discipline beginning with the first day of school: 1st offense – parents are called and requested to bring a change of clothing and/or a one day In-School Suspension 2nd offense – one day In- or Out-of- School Suspension 3rd offense – three days In- or Out-of-School Suspension 4th offense – Out-of-School Suspension up to 10 days 5 or more offenses – will result in referral for expulsion Local stores found to have appropriate clothing include Wal-Mart, Kohl’s, Target, Old Navy, Steve and Barry’s University Sportswear, Sears and Penney’s. Clothing may also be found at various second-hand stores. |
