On Thursday, August 27, 2026, Union City students were privileged to hear an inspiring message on perseverance and resilience from Eric McElvenny. After losing his right leg to an IED during his final tour as a U.S. Marine Corps Infantry Officer in Afghanistan, McElvenny transformed tragedy into an extraordinary journey of achievement. He turned that adversity into strength by completing eight Ironman Triathlons! Including the World Championships in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii Additionally he went on to represent the United States as a two-time Paralympian in Tokyo and Paris. Drawing from his triumphs, McElvenny shared actionable strategies with students on how to overcome life's everyday obstacles to reach their own finish lines. Following his powerful presentation, the Pittsburgh native generously spent time taking photos with students and offering personal encouragement to those preparing to enlist in the armed forces.
