In an effort to continue to increase campus safety and security, our team worked with our School Police Officers and the Erie County Emergency Management, the Department of Public Safety (ECDoPS), and Mobilcom, to secure VP5330 Portable radios for our School Police Officers. This will allow our SPOs not only a much wider range of communication capacity but they will be able to radio in directly to all local police departments and law enforcement officials. This was made possible through some careful planning with a safety grant through PCCD, which also covered much of the hardware for our classroom doors at the elementary, ensuring that classrooms can be locked internally. The radios have been programmed and approved by ECDoPS and arrived on July 30! Our SPOs are very excited to have this direct line to other emergency responders and will ensure an even quicker response time when emergencies arise on our campus. This came out of the discussions with the county-wide emergency management team when they were on our campus learning about 911Inform last summer, and we are so excited this finally came to fruition!
