On March 18, we held our 2nd Annual Choose Your Own Adventure Literacy Night! Six of our teachers, along with The Union City Family Support Center prepared read alouds and corresponding activities for each “Adventure.” We had 54 students participate with their families! When they entered the building, the students were able to choose three Adventures for the night. They could read Scribble Stones and paint rocks with Mrs. Boyd, or explore a rainforest with Mrs. Williams while reading The Umbrella. They could read Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs and make a boat out of snacks with the Union City Family Support Center, or play a decision making game with Mrs. Pituch after reading Spend It! They could design a clubhouse for Andrew Henry’s Meadow with Mrs. Reynolds, they could hear Ms. Trauner read Llama Llama Red Pajama and draw their own llama, or maybe they would read The Book with No Pictures and make Mrs. Smith say some crazy nonsense words! Our students had so much fun, and we heard great feedback from parents who attended the event! Every student left with at least one fun takeaway, and a book vending machine token. Raffle prize winners went home with a new book and a reading buddy! Prizes and takeaways were funded by United Way.
