Greetings, Bears! We are sharing our 2025-2026 UCASD School Assessment Calendar. This calendar highlights each of the testing dates for our Winter and Spring Keystone Exams for high school students and our Spring PSSAs for elementary and middle school. The image includes details on which grade-levels and content areas are tested and which Keystone exams are taken when. We also have a host of resources and information for families posted on our Student Assessment page on our District Website. Please feel free to check it out and know that you are always welcome to reach out to your child's guidance counselor and School Assessment Coordinator, Mr. McMahan, Mr. Anthony, and/or Mrs. Conti, or our District Assessment Coordinator, Mrs. Dell, with any questions throughout the year. We will host informational sessions for parents/guardians later this year and will also be sure to send reminders out as we get closer to each testing window. On October 16, Union City Area Middle/High School had the privilege of hosting acclaimed author Steve Sheinkin for an unforgettable day of storytelling, inspiration, and literary exploration. Thanks to a wonderful collaboration between UCASD and General McLane School District, our 7th and 8th grade students experienced the magic of meeting a real-world author whose books they've been reading in class. Union City has recently been chosen for McDonald's High School Sports Digital Fundraiser! On Thursday, October 23rd 10% of all orders placed on the McDonald's App at the Union City location will be donated to the athletic department for the betterment of our student-athletes. The athletes of the week for 10/6 have been announced, and once again two Bears were on the list. Kimmy Zielinski was recognized for her performance against Mercyhurst Prep. Kimmy dished out 29 assists in the sweep of the Lakers.
Josh Mitcham was nominated for another race win for the cross country team. Josh won the region meet against Eisenhower with a time of 18:28. His time helped Union City beat the Knights 17-42.

Next Monday, 10/13, the volleyball team will be hosting Ft. LeBoeuf with a 6:00 PM JV start. The volleyball team took initiative to make this a game to raise money for Haven Shaefer. We hope to see a large crowd to "serve" up support for Haven!

For the week of Sept. 29th- October 4th, the Erie Times-News posted the top athletic performances from the area. Two nominees represented Union City this week. The first is Josh Mitcham for his performance at the Dirty Dawg Invitational, winning the event with a time of 16:41.42.
The other athlete represented was Brooke VanTassel. Brooke had a double-double with 12 kills and 18 digs in the Bear's five-set win over Iroquois.

For the week of September 22nd, the Erie Times-News once again recognized two Union City Student-Athletes for their accomplishments. The athletes this week are Josh Mitcham and Allie Anderson. Josh once again won our duel meet this week against Corry, propelling the Bears to a 25-31 victory. Josh finished the race in a time of 18:02.
The second student featured is Emma Frank. Emma shot a 50 at the regional qualifying round it secure a sport at the District 10 Championships.

Good luck to our boys and girls golfers who qualified for the District Championships at the Meadville Country Club! Representing our girls team we have Ava Tomcho, Reiley Lineman, and Emma Frank. The Union City boys are Mason Wienczkowski, Joey Zahner, Ian Kinney, and Morgan Grieco.

Another week of recognition for some of our student athletes by the Erie Times-News. One again Josh Mitcham was names an outstanding performer for winning the Region 4 duel against North East. Josh had a time of 12:13.56 in his victory. The second Bear recognized was Kimmy Zielinski. During our match against Northwestern, Kimmy tallied 18 assists and 12 digs along with 4 aces in the sweep of the Wildcats.

Mr. Mumau has been working closely with our students, who have been creating impressive STEM projects. These students frequently use the 3D printers and are actively engaged in the VEX robotics program, which includes a competitive team that travels to various competitions throughout the year. Additionally, several students have shown interest in learning CAD/Solidworks engineering programs and exploring various coding languages. Their enthusiasm and creativity are truly remarkable, and they are accomplishing amazing things.

The proceeds from this Penny War will benefit the PTO to help pay for field trips, class parties, and teacher appreciation week projects. The grade level that raised the most, will win extra recess and a sweet treat!
